WMOT-FM is an educational and public service communication resource of Middle Tennessee State University. Housed within the College of Mass Communication, the station supports the student-centered academic programs of the College. WMOT-FM serves the region through informational and entertainment programming and outreach activities that foster educational, civic and personal development.
Specifically, the mission of WMOT-FM is:
To support the academic mission of the College by providing selected students with capstone experiences in a work-a-day setting with professional expectations and mentoring;
To provide jazz, news, classical, and related programming that encourages listeners to appreciate the richness and diversity of our culture, and to stay informed on world events.
To be a vital member of the community by providing programs, which reflect the intellectual interests of the region, with special emphasis on preserving, presenting and promoting the American music art form, jazz, as well as making classical music more accessible in the area, and providing more variety in news offerings for the region.
WMOT is a portal through which MTSU passes into the community and by which community support comes back in the form of private support of its programming.
