Join the Department of Art Monday, May 6, 2013 for a reception in Todd Art Gallery, 6-8 p.m. opening Edges and Angles, Contours and Reductions: An Exhibit of Advanced Drawing and Wood-fired Ceramics. A collaborative effort between advanced drawing and advanced clay students, it promises to be a celebration of accomplishment as the spring 2013 semester draws to a close.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- In 2009 Tennessee loosened laws governing the production of alcoholic beverages, leading to a dramatic rise in the number of breweries and distilleries operating in the state.

One of the newest companies is Mayday Brewery located in Murfreesboro.

The operation is still small enough that owner Ozzie Nelson gives most of the tours. Nelson is clearly proud of his brewery and enjoys showing it off.

Tennessee Human Rights Commission to Host Public Roundtable Discussion

MTSU Dance Theatre will present their Spring Dance Concert April 25^th – 27^th at 7:30 P.M. in Tucker Theatre. This concert highlights the exceptional creative activity done by students and faculty within the program. Presented will be dances appealing to a variety of tastes; modern, jazz, West African, and classical ballet.

Syria, North Korea Subjects of Discussion at MTSU Seminar

A panel of experts from diverse backgrounds will shed light on some dangerous areas of the world at a discussion sponsored by MTSU.

“Syria, North Korea and United States Leadership in the World,” a “Reflections on World Affairs” seminar, is slated for 11:20 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in Room 100 of MTSU’s James Union Building. The seminar is free and open to the public.

Dr. Moses Tesi, professor of political science and director of that department’s graduate studies, will moderate the discussion.

Public Can View Rare Apollo Mission Lunar Samples Friday at MTSU

MTSU faculty member Dr. Irina Perevalova acknowledges that it is not only one of the coolest guests she has ever brought to a physics and astronomy Star Party, but also one of the rarest.

On display starting at 5 p.m. Friday, April 19, in Wiser-Patten Science Hall will be lunar samples from Apollo missions 14-17, said Perevalova, who helped land the lunar and meteorite samples at the university.

Casting Announced for Disney’s The Lion King Broadway’s Award-Winning Best Musical

Casting has been announced for the Nashville return engagement of Disney’s THE LION KING. Nashville’s most eagerly awaited stage production ever will leap onto the stage in the Tennessee Performing Arts Center’s Andrew Jackson Hall from Tuesday, May 7 to Sunday, June 2. The press opening night is Thursday, May 9 at 7:30 p.m. The show’s six-week premiere engagement in 2006 played a sold-out run at TPAC.

New Student Exhibit ‘Shows the Diversity’ at MTSU’s Todd Art Gallery

The MTSU Department of Art's Student Gallery Committee is inviting the public to a new exhibit at the Todd Art Gallery, “Nous,” a salon-style display featuring a variety of student works from across the creative spectrum.

“Nous,” which is French for “we” or “us,” is open through Thursday, April 11.

"'Nous' is a show that provides us the opportunity to show the diversity of the art department," said sophomore studio arts major Amber Lelli, the exhibit curator.

Visiting Artist plans lecture at MTSU April 4

Figurative ceramic artist Tom Bartel will present a lecture during a special visiting artist event at MTSU April 4.

Bartel, an associate professor of art at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, is known for his disturbing, humorous and thought-provoking fragmented figures. His work was included in a 2007 exhibit, “Of the Body,” in MTSU’s Todd Art Gallery as well as extensive U.S. and international exhibits.

His visiting artist lecture is planned for Thursday, April 4, at 3 p.m. in the Student Union Video Theater.

This event is free and open to the public.

Islamic Scholar to Speak April 5 at MTSU’s Honors College

The presence of Islam in some European nations is the focus of an upcoming lecture sponsored by MTSU’s University Honors College.

Dr. Ahmet Yukleyen, Croft Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Mississippi, is scheduled to speak at 3 p.m. Friday, April 5, in Room 106 of the Paul W. Martin University Honors College Building.

Yukleyen is the author of “Localizing Islam in Europe: Turkish Islamic Communities in Germany in the Netherlands,” which was published in 2012.
