Student Arrested for Allegedly Photographing Women in Dorm Shower

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (ANFINSON/OSBORNE) -- A Middle Tennessee State University student has been arrested for allegedly videotaping women showering in a dorm bathroom.

According to police reports, a female student taking a shower in Rutledge Hall in early March noticed a phone on top of the shower stall. The woman moved to another stall when she realized the phone was facing her, and appeared to be on.

When she saw someone grab the phone the student looked out to see a man leaving the bathroom.

Camp for Grieving Children in its 21st Year

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- The 21^st annual Camp Forget-Me-Not for grieving children is scheduled to get underway June 5 in Murfreesboro.

The camp is sponsored by Alive Hospice and is intended for children between the ages of 6 and 14 who have lost someone they love.

Grief Counselor Pan Quaintance says the camp is designed to be fun, but also provides children with the tools to cope with loss.

Tenn. Woman's "Fresh Start" Ends in Tragedy

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP/WMOT) — A Tennessee woman who moved to North Carolina two weeks ago for a new job and a fresh start is dead and charges have been filed in her murder.

Authorities in Wake County, North Carolina, say they've found no prior connections between Melissa Dawn Huggins-Jones and the three people charged with killing her.

Huggins-Jones' 8-year-old daughter found her mother covered in blood inside their new home and sought help from construction crews working nearby.

Rutherford County Sheriff's Deputy Fired

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- A Rutherford County Sheriff’s deputy has been fired after he allegedly smuggled contraband, including marijuana, to inmates in the county jail.

In a press statement released Wednesday morning, Sheriff Robert Arnold said he terminated Deputy Keith Knowles May 10. Arnold intends to present evidence in the case to the district attorney’s office for possible prosecution.

Officers, including K-9 units, searched all 800 inmates and the entire jail for contraband. Cigarettes and other tobacco products were recovered.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- Tennesseans continue to respond to the tragedy in Oklahoma.

Wednesday morning volunteers helped the Church of Christ Disaster Relief Effort pack 1300 emergency food boxes at its Nashville warehouse. The boxes will be trucked to Oklahoma later this week. The ministry sent the first of several semi-truck loads of food and other supplies west Tuesday.

Bonnaroo Site to Host Additional Events, Economic Impact Grows

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) -- Bonnaroo released a new economic impact study Monday indicating the annual music festival contributes more than $50 million dollars to Middle Tennessee’s economy each year.

Greyhill Associates of New York conducted the study, which says festival goers directly spend about $36 million annually, while also generating indirect expenditures amounting to $15 million.

New Convention Center Opens, Expansion Plans Already in the Works

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — Metro Nashville held a ribbon cutting ceremony Monday morning for its new Music City Center convention facility.

The official opening actually came on the second day festivities marking the center’s completion.

Officials say about 15,000 visitors turned out Sunday to tour the new facility, enjoy live music, and try out an indoor zip line.

Australian Hiker Dies Along Appalachian Trail

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (AP) — An Australian who was hiking the Appalachian Trail in eastern Tennessee has died.

Authorities said 71-year-old George Walls Grant from Collie, Western Australia, fell ill while hitchhiking to a market on Monday.
