DesJarlais vs. Stewart Getting National Attention

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Two years after upsetting the incumbent Democrat, U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais is the only Tennessee member of Congress facing a serious challenge.

Tuesday's election has Tennesseans casting ballots in that race, other congressional contests, a U.S. Senate race and the presidential contest.

Democrats couldn't field credible candidates against two other Republicans who in 2010 won House seats held by Democrats.

Election 2012 Voting is Underway in Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The polls are open across Tennessee. Voters are casting ballots in the presidential race, for one U.S. Senate seat, nine U.S. House contests, the entire state House and half of the state Senate.

More than 1.4 million Tennessee voters cast ballots during the early voting period.

A state or federally issued photo ID is required to vote. This is the first year for the requirement, which also applied in the March presidential primary and the August state primary.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (BURRISS)  --  As the election winds down many people will be cheering the end of campaign ads, slogans, banners, posters and other election paraphernalia. But in two years it will be time for another round of Congressional elections and all that entails.

But you know what, maybe all of the time and money spent on election posturing isn’t so bad, especially compared with restrictions in place in China in the face of this week’s upcoming party congress.

Tennesseans Pitch-in to Aid Hurricane Sandy Survivors

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Tennesseans are at work on the East Coast, helping get Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts underway.

The Church of Christ Disaster Relief ministry in Nashville says it’s already sent two semi-trailer loads of emergency food supplies to locations in New York and New Jersey.  Two more truckloads will be leaving Nashville Friday. Volunteers were in the ministry’s warehouse Friday morning filling additional boxes with food.

MTSU Bowl Eligible After Hard Fought Game

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Middle Tennessee State is now Bowl Game eligible, thanks to a down to the wire win last night over archrival Western Kentucky.

Middle Tennessee eked out 34-29 victory, moving them into second place in the Sun Belt Conference.

The hard fought game was tied three different times.

In the final minutes Reggie Whatley ran 96 yards for a touchdown to put the Blue Raiders ahead. Kenneth Gilstrap pulled down a crucial interception to stall WKU’s final drive.
