His flair for melody, with shadings of gospel, is rooted in the blues of his Mississippi hometown. Miller's fine sense of rhythm and stunning harmonic excursions find expression in his own tune, "Carousel," and he and McPartland show their pianistic compatibility as they trade ideas on Ellington's "What Am I Here For?"
