FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Middle Tennessee lost it's bowl game to Navy yesterday in Texas, while Ole Miss won the Music City Bowl at LP Field.
Keenan Reynolds ran for 86 yards and two touchdowns to lead Navy to victory over MTSU at the Armed Services Bowl.
Reynolds had a 3-yard score to cap the opening drive for Navy (9-4) and added a 1-yarder in the fourth quarter. Already with the NCAA record for touchdowns rushing by a quarterback, Reynolds upped his total to 31 to match Colorado State running back Kapri Bibbs, also a sophomore, for the national lead this season.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee education officials trying to implement the federal government's new Common Core academic standards face opposition from a tea party-linked group that also objects to what it considers biased passages in some state-approved textbooks.
In September, the Senate Education Committee held hearings to discuss concerns about the standards designed to prepare students for college or jobs by the time they graduate from high school.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Flu activity in Tennessee is picking up in Tennessee, particularly among young and middle-age adults.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has found the predominant strain this year is H1N1, the same strain responsible for the 2009 pandemic.
Nationally, more than 1,100 flu-associated hospitalizations have been confirmed since Oct. 1, but many hospitalizations can be prevented by vaccination. The CDC estimates that about 1,600 hospitalizations were prevented in Tennessee last year.
