County Jobless Numbers Good News for Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The Tennessee Department of Labor has released county level unemployment numbers for February and the report is good news for the mid-state.

Six of the ten counties with the state’s lowest unemployment are located here in Middle Tennessee. Williamson County continues to enjoy the state’s best jobless rate at 5.3 percent. That’s nearly a full percentage point below the next closest county.

Of the 13 counties in the Nashville Metropolitan Statistical Area, all but one saw their jobless rates fall in February, even though the statewide employment rate climbed a tenth-of-a-point higher during the same period.

The rest of the Tennessee isn’t fairing nearly as well. Of the state’s 95 counties, 46 are suffering from jobless rates at ten percent or higher.  Scott County, located north of Oak Ridge on the Kentucky line, reported an unemployment rate of 17.4 percent in February.

Rutherford County enjoys the state’s third-best jobless rate at 6.2 percent.
