"In God We Trust" Approved for Putnam Courthouse
COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — The Putnam County Commission has voted unanimously to place the national motto "In God We Trust" on all four sides of the county courthouse.
The commission vote Monday night approved a recommendation made by its planning committee last week.
The idea originated at Cookeville’s Colonial View Baptist Church where the Rev. Al Gaspard is the pastor.
“We’re not going to forget our creator, who we believe created the universe – he created all of us. We want to bring him back to life where everybody can see that there are some people who believe in God and believe that he is the answer to what ails our nation.”
The motto will be placed in a 24-inch space above the columns at each entrance to the century-old courthouse.
No timetable for completion of the project was announced.
