Film Premieres at Belcourt Theater
MTSU Professor Debuts Controversial Film
MURFREESBRO, Tenn. [NELSON] --- A Middle Tennessee State University professor is launching a new film that’s already proved controversial.
Dr. Bob Pondillo’s film, “The Miracles on Honey Bee Hill,” debuts Tuesday and will get the red carpet treatment at Belcourt Theater.
The short 23-minute film focuses on the thorny issue of gay marriage and features child actors.
An early version of “Miracles” was recently shown at MTSU and offended a student, who then brought the film to the attention of state senator Bill Ketron.
Ketron asked MTSU and the Tennessee Board of Regents to investigate, but neither organization found reason for concern.
MTSU defended Dr. Pondillo’s right to make the film, citing academic freedom.
Pondillo says that MTSU and the TBR “… stood up for everybody not just me… for which I’ll always be grateful.”
In an email to WMOT Senator Ketron said he wasn’t satisfied with the response, but has offered no further criticism.
“The Miracles on Honey Bee Hill” starts at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Belcourt Theater in Nashville.
