MTSU Professor Participates in His Fourth Olympics
MURFREESBORO, Tenn (HUBBARD) -- While many teachers enjoy the opportunity to relax during their summer break, a professor at Middle Tennessee State University is having a summer that’s anything but relaxing.
Most people know Dr. Andrew Owusu as a professor health and human performance at MTSU . He's also know as the school’s assistant track coach. What most people don’t know is that Owusu is also a decorated jumper and three-time Olympic athlete.
This summer Owusu is serving as an assistant coach for his native Ghana’s Olympic track and field team. He’s coaching the team’s two jumpers during the 2012 games.
Although Owusu never medaled in Olympic competition, he says his experience in the 1996, 2000 and 2004 games aides his coaching today.
“I can relate to a lot of the issues or concerns that they may have, both physically as well as psychologically, so I think it’s a plus for us.”
Dr. Owusu isn’t the only Mid-State athlete in London for the games. Two of the athletes he coaches at MTSU are competing in the Olympics as part of the Nigerian team.
