MTSU did not have to look far to find the new farm laboratory director in the School of Agribusiness and Agriscience.
Alumnus Matthew Wade, manager of the Tennessee Livestock Center on campus, will oversee all the farm lab units, agriculture department director Warren Gill said.
Wade, 44, replaces Tim Redd, who retired in the spring, but will remain part of the faculty. Wade’s first day on the job will be Monday, July 29, but already he has been involved in many meetings related to the position.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — A new study of the state's agritourism industry estimates that its economic impact in Tennessee more than doubled between 2006 and 2012.
Researchers with the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture estimate visitors to Tennessee agritourism operations in 2012 spent more than $34 million directly and more than $54 million in total.
Those estimates are based on survey responses from 171 Tennessee agritourism farms.
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- Tennessee’s unemployment rate rose in June for the third straight month.
The Tennessee Department of Labor says the jobless rate rose two-tenths from May’s rate to 8.5 percent in June. Tennessee’s unemployment rate is now nine-tenths of one percent above the national figure of 7.6 percent.
The Department of Labor says Tennessee lost more than 16,000 jobs in June, but spokesman Jeff Hentschel notes most of those positions are seasonal.
