Seminar Explores Faith and LGBTQ Intersection

MURFREESBORO, Tenn (WMOT)  --  The Scarritt-Bennett Center in Nashville is holding a conference this weekend designed to help Christians explore issues of sexual orientation and gender identity.

The Center’s Boo Tyson says the seminar is open to anyone interested in the intersection of faith and LGBTQ issues. She especially hopes the conference will attract those in leadership positions in the Christian community.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn  (WMOT)  --  More than 100 students gathered on the Vanderbilt campus this morning to protest changes the university recently made to its policies governing student organizations.

The new policies require that, to remain certified, student organizations must allow any student to join and also allow all-comers to stand for leadership positions in the group.

The policy is being contested, largely by Christian groups, that insist their officers must be students who share their core beliefs.

Christan Groups React to Vandy Policy Changes

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Registered campus groups at Vanderbilt University are no longer permitted to bar students who don't share the groups' mission or beliefs from leadership positions.

That non-discrimination policy was reiterated at a packed campus meeting Tuesday night. A university spokesperson says all students must be able to join a student group and run for leadership positions in order for it to be registered.
