Grammy-nominated ALIAS Presents Concert with World Premiere and Two Wildly Different String Quartets

ALIAS has developed a reputation for championing new music. In its first 10 seasons, ALIAS

Chamber Ensemble has performed over a dozen World Premieres. On its Winter Concert (February 16, 2013 -­‐   8:00 PM – Turner Hall, Blair School of Music, Vanderbilt University), the ensemble unveils another new work, this one by composer John Marvin. The Sonata for oboe and piano will be premiered by oboist Roger Wiesmeyer, a much–loved figure in Nashville’s music scene.  

Also on the program are two string quartets, by Johannes Brahms and John Zorn, written over 100

Thirteenth Annual Flute Festival Held at MTSU

The thirteenth annual MTSU Flute Festival, featuring guest artist Kate Lukas of the Jacobs School of Music will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. in the Wright Music Building (WMB) lobby on the MTSU campus.

   An open flute recital by guest artist, Lukas and MTSU faculty pianist, Lillian Pearson will begin at 1:00 p.m. in Hinton Hall followed by a 2:15 master class presented by Lukas.

Nashville Ballet Awarded $5,000 Grant from Community Foundation

Nashville Ballet receives grant

Nashville Ballet was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee (CFMT) to sustain and expand curriculum-based educational arts programming for underserved populations in schools, community centers and libraries, that reach 25,000 individuals annually.

CFMT is a charitable organization dedicated to enriching the quality of life in the 40 Middle Tennessee counties it serves. It recently awarded grants, totaling $1.3 million, to 273 nonprofits as part of The Foundation’s annual discretionary grant-making process.
