– The Florida Orchestra (TFO) has announced the appointment of Michael Francis as its new Music Director starting with the 2015/2016 season, serving as Music Director Designate for the upcoming 2014/2015 season. Appointed as part of an initial three-year contract, his duties include being the primary conductor and providing the artistic leadership for concert programming and related artistic decisions. Although his primary role is with the Tampa Bay Times Masterworks series, he will also be conducting one concert each season for the Raymond James Pops and the morning Coffee Concert serie
This summer, Avery Fisher Prize-winner Gil Shaham is the guest soloist on Carnegie Hall’sNational Youth Orchestra of the USA (NYO-USA) inaugural U.S. tour playing Britten’s Violin Concerto under David Robertson’s leadership, at venues including Carnegie Hall (July 22), the Tanglewood Music Festival (July 24), Chicago’s Grant Park Music Festival (July 28), and L.A.’s Disney Hall (Aug 4).
Pierre-Laurent Aimard returns to the concert stage this summer, launching the Ligeti Project at Germany’s Ruhr Piano Festival and England’s Aldeburgh Music. A major new online resource, the project is designed to disseminate his exclusive insights into the late Hungarian composer’s piano music, as gained over the course of their long and uniquely close working partnership.
Daniil Trifonov launches the summer with an eight-concert tour of Israel, joining Kent Nagano and the Israel Philharmonic to perform the First Piano Concertos of Liszt and Tchaikovsky in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, and Haifa (June 23–30).
