Despite research outlining that music education contributes to an increase in college entrance exams, GPAs and school attendance, fewer than one-fifth of all Metro Nashville Public School students have taken at least one year of it. A new nonprofit hopes to change that and is working to implement jazz programs in seven schools for the 2015-2016 academic year.

It's that time again! Mark your calendars for Jazzmania 2014, the annual fall jazz party and fundraiser. The event will again be held in Liberty Hall at The Factory in Franklin and will happen Saturday, October 25, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. 

Jazzmania 2014 is the jazz party of the year and will feature food from Sargent's Fine Catering and complimentary wine, beer and a signature Jazzmania cocktail from Lipman Brothers.

A Tribute to Illinois Jacquet

Tenor saxophonist Jimmy Heath, along with the MTSU Jazz Ensemble and jazz faculty, will open up the 2014 MTSU Jazz Artist Series on October 20 at 7:30 p.m. with a tribute to Illinois Jacquet.

The concert will be held at the MTSU Wright Music Building, and tickets will be sold for $10 to the public. Tickets are free to MTSU students, faculty and staff.

Along with celebrating the life and career of Jacquet, this event will also celebrate the MTSU Jazz Scholarship, established by the Illinois Jacquet Foundation.

Jazz on the Lawn with Midnight Riders

Beachaven Winery's Jazz on the Lawn summer concert series presents Midnight Riders this Saturday, October 11, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Concerts and parking are all free; all we ask, is that you buy a bottle of Beachaven wine to enjoy with the music.

Please bring: friends, lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic. Please do NOT bring: pets, grills, tents or outside alcohol.

In order to get a good parking spot and seating area on the lawn, it pays to arrive around 5 p.m.

Arrington Vineyards hosts music in the vines every year from April through December. From May to December, the events are every Friday 5 p.m. - 9 p.m., Saturday 5 p.m. - 9 p.m., and Sunday 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Music in the vines is a live outdoor jazz event featuring local groups in our vineyard courtyard. Guests are welcome to come out and enjoy the vineyard grounds with family and friends while listening to great music and enjoying award-winning wines.
