Two Nights, No New Occupy Arrests

Oct 31, 2011

A second night with no new arrests in Nashville on Legislative Plaza. Occupy Nashville protesters are, once again, occupying the plaza around the clock.

After the Haslam Administration imposed new restrictions on protests last Thursday, Highway Patrol Troopers arrested a couple of dozen protesters both Friday and Saturday.

But a metro night court commissioner refused to jail the protesters on both occasions, saying that the state had exceeded its authority.

Protest spokesperson Cecily Friday says the arrests have only stiffened protesters resolve.

Occupy Protesters Arrested, Then Released

Oct 28, 2011

(AP) Quite a morning for Occupy Nashville.

Twenty-nine protesters were arrested on Legislative Plaza before dawn, then released just a few hours later.

According to WKRN-TV, Metro's night court commissioner, Thomas Nelson, released the protesters wihtout charges. Nelson said the state hadn't given the protesters enough time to react to new protest regulations.

Governor Haslam’s Administration announced just yesterday that it was imposing a 10  to six curfew on the Capital grounds where the protesters have been camped out since October 6th.
