"Paycheck to Patriots" Job Fairs Held Statewide Thursday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Tennessee is partnering with several of the state’s biggest employers to connect veterans with jobs.

The Paycheck to Patriots initiative will host job fairs in 13 locations all around the state Thursday. The Tennessee Career Center in Tullahoma will host the mid-state job fair beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing until 2 p.m.

Dollar General Vice President Bob Ravener is a Navy veteran, and says he knows from first-hand experience that vets bring a lot to the table.

Campus Union Says Tenn. Higher Education Being Compromised

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  A union with members on most of Tennessee’s college campuses says higher education is being compromised by ongoing state budget cuts.

The United Campus Worker’s Union is holding informational meetings it calls “teach-ins” statewide. A teach-in will take place on the Middle Tennessee State campus Wednesday evening.

MTSU Explores Effectiveness of Political Attack Ads

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — As the presidential campaign heads into the final days, Middle Tennessee State University is examining how negative advertising and attack ads are effective and why they flood the airwaves.

A symposium on negative campaign advertising will be held Tuesday at the Student Union Building and is sponsored by the MTSU Department of Political Science, the Albert Gore Research Center and the College of Liberal Arts.

The Arts as a Community Development Tool

SAVANNAH, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Arts Commission is hosting a conference to explore how the arts can strengthen local communities.

The Transforming Assets Into Opportunities conference takes place Tuesday through Thursday at Pickwick Landing State Park. It will bring together artists, arts administrators, arts supporters and community planners to explore how the arts can fuel community and economic development.

The Arts Commission's Shannon Ford says the Cannon County Arts Center in Woodbury is a good example of arts based development.
