MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- A local student has completed a map that details the geographic distribution of hate groups found here in Tennessee and across the Southeast.
This past semester Middle Tennessee State University’s Dr. Patricia Boda asked her cartography class to create maps for a project she entitled the “Geography of Hate.”
One student created maps detailing the forced eviction of Native Americans from their ancestral lands in the 1830s Trail of Tears exodus. Others focused on the Holocaust and more recent instances of genocide in Sudan and Rawanda.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — The State of Tennessee is stepping up to help homeowners faced with possible foreclosure.
The state attorney general's office is recommending homeowners in trouble call the Tennessee's Mortgage Assistance Hotline to get reliable information and referrals to free foreclosure prevention counseling.
The hotline is a partnership between the state and the Homeownership Preservation Foundation — a nonprofit that’s been operating a national hotline for the past five years.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — It was likely a record weekend for gun sales in Tennessee.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Kristin Helm said in an email that the agency performed 9,772 background checks over Friday, Saturday and Sunday. That's 500 more than the second biggest weekend on record — Black Friday and the two days that followed in November.
Background checks do not indicate how many guns were actually sold because buyers can purchase more than one gun.
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- A University of Tennessee law professor says dozens of federal lawsuits filed in response to the ongoing meningitis outbreak could soon be folded into a single case.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that more than 600 people have been sickened to date and 39 have died, including 14 Tennesseans.
The Associated Press reports that at least 50 federal lawsuits in nine states have been filed against a Massachusetts compounding pharmacy. All of those infected received steroid injections prepared by the company.
