Tenn. Volunteer Lineman Help with Sandy Recovery

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Eight Tennessee utility districts have sent volunteer line workers to help get the power back on in Virginia and Maryland as part of Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts.

Trent Scott of the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association says 60 lineman are already in the northeast waiting in staging areas for the go-ahead to begin repairs. Nashville Electric says it’s released an additional 20 contract line crews for recovery duty.

MTSU Poll Says Tennessee Growing More Conservative

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The MTSU Poll has released its second round of results and they show a clear trend in Tennessee toward a more conservative electorate.

The Survey Group at Middle Tennessee State conducted its poll October 16 to 21 and released its initial findings this past weekend. Pollsters at the University released their second round of results early Tuesday morning.

Mid-State Air Travel Disrupted by Hurricane Sandy

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Hurricane Sandy is playing havoc with airline flights in and out of Middle Tennessee.

Airport spokesperson Emily Richards says nearly 70 flights have been canceled for Tuesday at Nashville International. Most of those flights were headed to the northeast.

“We’re seeing cancelations to New York City, Newark, New Jersey, also Boston, Philadelphia - north of Washington D.C. and Baltimore. So those are some major hubs and we’re seeing a lot of impact at the airport.”

Tenn. Groups Prepare Disaster Aid for the East Coast

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The Volunteer State is readying its response to Hurricane Sandy. Several of the state's disaster response organizations report they're gearing up for what could be a significant disaster.

The Red Cross already has teams from Tennessee headed east.

The Church of Christ Disaster Relief ministry in Nashville says it has three tractor trailers loaded with emergency food boxes ready to roll. It plans to have volunteers pack more boxes beginning Wednesday.

MTSU Poll: Rise of the Independent Voter?

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The latest MTSU Poll shows Mitt Romney enjoying wide support in Tennessee, but there are a couple of interesting findings.

The twice-yearly poll, released Saturday, is conducted by researchers at Middle Tennessee State University. The election preview edition of the poll shows only 34 percent of likely voters voicing support for President Obama, while nearly 60 percent favor Gov. Romney.
