MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Count Nashville Chief of Police Steve Anderson among some 200 law enforcement leaders sending a letter to President Trump about criminal law reform.

Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher also signed the letter and it was co-written by former Nashville Police Chief Ronal Serpas.

The letter contradicts recent assertions by Trump that crime is on the rise, noting that statistics show that crime has been on the decline since 1991.

It also asserts that simply putting more people behind bars won’t “preserve public safety.”
