NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Havighurst)  I’m With Her, the all-star folk trio of Sara Watkins, Sarah Jarosz and Aoife O’Donovan, has released its first original band-written song.

 

“Little Lies” - a live in studio performance released on YouTube - is a single in advance of I’m With Her’s first recording, an EP of five cover songs recorded on stage in New York in 2015.

National Dance Day: Activities planned for Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  It's time to get your dancing shoes laced up for National Dance Day.

The Nashville Ballet will this Saturdy be offering free sample classes and a group dance. Several different dance styles will be made available, including ballet, adult contemporary and Hip Hop. There’s also a dance workout class called DanceFix.

This is the seventh year the Nashville company has sponsored a Dance Day celebration. The ballet’s Nick Mullikin says a lot of people start out feeling self-conscious, but that doesn’t last long.

Eclipse chaser spreads the word about August event

MURFREESBORO, Tenn.  (WMOT)  --  A man who calls himself a Solar Eclipse Chaser is spending the week in Tennessee.

Rick Brown is driving cross-country following the projected path of next month’s total solar eclipse. He describes the trip as a kind of eclipse outreach, making Americans aware of the event and how to view it safely.

Past eclipses have taken Brown all over the world.

“The first one was in Mexico, the next one after that was in Thailand, South America, and then we had two in Turkey, two in China, two in Africa, and one in Tahiti.”

At 10:43 a.m. Wednesday, inmate and convicted murderer Ronald Phillips was pronounced dead, executed via lethal injection by the state of Ohio — the first time the state has carried out a death sentence in more than three years.

Phillips' death at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville may mark the end of one chapter in the state's battle to find a legally permissible means of execution – and the state may soon begin carrying out many more death sentences.
