For Childers, 'Purgatory' A Fine Place To Be

Few if any albums this year from a new artist have arrived with more impact than Purgatory by Tyler Childers. The debut, produced by Sturgill Simpson, shot to number one on the iTunes singer/songwriter chart and reached #6 for albums overall in the week since its August 4 release.

 

The album is described as a song cycle that takes an unsentimental look at “the people, landmarks and legendary moments from Childers’ childhood home in Lawrence County, KY”

WMOT-FM news producer Shawn Jacobs recently received two Honorable Mention Associated Press awards in a statewide AP broadcasters' competition.

The Tennessee Associated Press Broadcasters Association's radio news competition was the name of the event in which Jacobs received the awards.

His awards were in the large market category for work aired in 2002.

Tennessee's undocumented immigrants fear DACA will die

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (OSBORNE)  --  Some 8,000 plus undocumented Tennessee residents and their families are holding their collective breath as they await the Trump Administration’s decision on DACA.

The Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents program was initiated by former President Obama. It extends certain rights, including temporary freedom from deportation, to undocumented immigrants brought to this country as children.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A leading Republican senator says Donald Trump has not yet shown the stability or competence required for an American president to succeed.

Bob Corker of Tennessee, who chairs the Foreign Relations Committee, called for "radical changes" in how the Trump White House operates. He spoke Thursday to local reporters in Chattanooga.

His comments come two days after Trump declared at a news conference that white supremacists don't bear all the blame for the violence last weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — A Democratic congressman from Tennessee says he plans to introduce articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump following his comments on the white supremacist rally in Virginia that turned violent.

U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen of Memphis said Thursday that the Republican president's statements about the clashes between white supremacists and counterprotesters last weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia, show he should be removed from office.
