Blue Raiders Look to Rebound from Tough 2011 Season

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (HUBBARD) -- MTSU football will look to rebound from last year’s tough season when they take the field at Floyd Stadium Thursday tonight.

The Blue Raiders finished the 2011 season with a 2-10 record, giving up an average of 37 points a game.

Head coach Rick Stockstill shook things up in the spring when he brought in former SEC defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix to lend a hand.

Despite the defensive changes, starting quarterback Logan Kilgore says the offensive scheme will remain much the same.

MURFREESBORO, TENN. (HUBBARD) -- WMOT continues to explore what the fall football season might have in store for Tennessee schools. University of Tennessee fans haven’t had a lot to cheer about in recent seasons, but there is some reason for Vols fans to be optimistic in 2012.

Tennessee stumbled through a 5-7 season in 2011 and ended it with a humiliating loss to rival Kentucky.

Lost in the poor record was Tennessee’s solid defense.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (HUBBARD) -- Sports figures often seem to come and go quickly, but a Middle Tennessee State coach - with an impressive Olympic resume - has stood the test of time.

MTSU Track and Field Coach Dean Hayes has a list of stateside accomplishments too long to recount.

Hayes has also coached a number of international competitions. He was an assistant coach for the U.S. Olympic Team in 1988 at the Seoul games.

Most people know Dr. Andrew Owusu as a professor health and human performance at MTSU . He's also know as the school’s assistant track coach. What most people don’t know is that Owusu is also a decorated jumper and three-time Olympic athlete.

Mid State Athelete Learns Olympic Sized Lessons

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (HUBBARD) -- a Middle Tennessee State athlete recently had her first taste of what being an Olympian might be like. MTSU's Ann Dudley ultimately came up short, but says the experience will serve her well

Dudley became the Blue Raiders first female All American entry in the high jump this past track season. Her success led her to the U.S. track and field Olympic trials last month in Eugene, Ore.

Dudley went right to work and made the preliminary cut to get into the high-jump final.
