The next edition of the “MTSU On the Record” radio program tackles the alteration of images in order to manipulate the news.

Host Gina Logue’s interview with Chris Harris, professor in the MTSU Department of Electronic Media Communication, will air from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, June 17, and from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Sunday, June 23, on WMOT-FM (89.5 and wmot.org).

Harris, a veteran photographer who teaches courses in digital imaging and media ethics, asserts that some journalists are so enthralled with compelling images that verification and context are ignored.

Our winning school is Aldama Elementary School, a Dual-Immersion School in Los Angeles, California. Aldama will use the money to transform a classroom into a magical science laboratory where students will design, hypothesize, solve problems, record data and discover how the world works.

A new MTSU course focused on techniques for dispensing information in times of crisis will be the topic on the next “MTSU On the Record” radio program.

Host Gina Logue’s interview with Dr. Cary Greenwood, assistant professor of journalism, will air from 5 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 3, and from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Sunday, June 9, on WMOT-FM (89.5 and wmot.org).

Beginning this fall, Greenwood will teach a course in crisis communication from 12:40 to 2:05 p.m.

‘MTSU On the Record’ Explores Media Images of Breastfeeding

Depictions of breastfeeding in the media will be the topic on the next “MTSU On the Record” radio program.

Host Gina Logue’s interview with Dr. Katie Foss, assistant professor of journalism, will air from 5:30 to 6 p.m. on Monday, May 27, and from 8 to 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 2, on WMOT-FM (89.5 and wmot.org).

Foss’s study, titled “That’s not a beer bong! It’s a breast pump! Representations of breastfeeding in prime-time fictional television,” was published in the academic journal “Health Communication.”

Boston, Texas Tragedies Discussed on ‘MTSU On the Record’

The next edition of “MTSU On the Record” will focus on media coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings and the Texas fertilizer plant explosion.

Host Gina Logue’s interview with Dr. Larry Burriss, professor of journalism, will air from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, May 20, and from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Sunday, May 26, on WMOT-FM (89.5 and wmot.org).

Burriss also takes up the issue of CNN media critic Howard Kurtz’s fall from grace for inaccurate reporting regarding the story of NBA player Jason Collins’ decision to reveal his homosexuality.

The impact of corporate media takeovers will be the focus of the next edition of “MTSU On the Record.”

Host Gina Logue’s interview with Dr. Adam Rennhoff, assistant professor in the MTSU Department of Economics and Finance, will air from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, May 13, and from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Sunday, May 19, on WMOT-FM (89.5 and wmot.org).

Rennhoff’s research flies in the face of the conventional wisdom that the housing of many newspapers and radio and television stations under relatively few corporate umbrellas diminishes media’s service to their localities.

WMOT Reporters and Electronic Media Students Win Associated Press Awards

MTSU electronic media students brought home top honors in multiple statewide categories at the recent Tennessee Associated Press Broadcasters College Career Day and Tennessee AP College Broadcasters Award ceremony.

The event, hosted by MTSU’s College of Mass Communication, saw MTSU students win first-place awards for Best Radio Feature Story, Best Radio News Story and Best TV Public Affairs and second-place finishes for Best TV Feature Story and Best TV Sports Story.

Main Street JazzFest has confirmed that its schedule for Saturday, May 4 has been canceled due to inclement weather. With a steady forecast of rain on the radar for Saturday, organizers decided the event could not go on as planned.
