Big Mid-State Employer Sees Sales Decline

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- Some disappointing sales numbers were released Wednesday by one of Middle Tennessee’s biggest employers.

Nissan reported a sales drop in September of 2.4 percent. The company’s North American division, headquartered in Franklin, fared somewhat better with a sales decline of just over one percent.

There were some bright spots. Sales of the Nissan Rogue and Pathfinder were both up significantly.

Nissan says September sales of its new LEAF, all-electric vehicle, were the best the car has seen this year.

WASHINGTON (AP/WMOT) — A political whodunit has the national media focused on Williamson County.

The Secret Service was in Franklin Thursday investigating claims that someone burglarized a PricewaterhouseCoopers accounting office there and stole two decades' worth of presidential candidate Mitt Romney's tax returns.

Authorities are studying computer thumb drives that were delivered with an unusual demand: a $1 million payment in hard-to-trace "Bitcoin" internet currency.

Franklin School System Rezoning for Diversity

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) — The Franklin Special School District is changing how it assigns students to schools so that populations will be more diverse.

Because housing patterns have changed, 40 percent of the students who receive free or reduced-price lunches in the Franklin system go to just two elementary schools.

School board member Kent McNish tells The Tennessean that the decision this month to begin rezoning students is an effort to enable more students to have a better shot at success.
