Instructional Support

WMOT supports the ACEJMC curriculum philosophy and standards established in its accrediting guidelines. In doing so, and because WMOT is not a laboratory station, practical application activities are rigidly controlled.

The WMOT Radio instructional responsibilities are:

• To provide the selected student with supervised study, experience and on-the-job-training (0-J-T);

• To give the student an opportunity to observe and to analyze the methods, techniques, and creative processes of the profession as s/he goes about her/his work over an extended period of time; and

• To delegate to the student, whenever possible, an effective role in the creative, communicative process under the guidance and direction of professionals in a professional environment.

Upon completion of prerequisite courses in announcing and production, students are introduced to station operation in an off-air training period.
All on-air and advanced student positions are filled on a competitive basis because the reputation of the university is directly affected by their performance.

• No student is allowed to participate unless the sequence coordinator and station staff are confident that the individual meets the O-J-T program standards.

Notice:
The above is part of a plan approved by President Sam H. Ingram in 1983. Subsequent ACEJMC curriculum standards required some modification relating to practical application courses etc.
