More Concerns Raised About Election Irregularities

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — Democratic leaders are asking for a delay in certifying the August primary results after reports that voting machines in Davidson County defaulted to the Republican primary ballot.

A letter was sent to Secretary of State Tre Hargett Wednesday by the entire Democratic state legislative leadership. The letter states "voting apparatus should never default to one party or another" and calls for a full investigation.

Tenn. Road Construction Halted for Holdiday Weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — The State of Tennessee is trying to make your holiday travels just a bit easier.

Transportation Commissioner John Schroer is ordering road construction in the state to stop by noon Friday. It won’t resume until Tuesday morning.

There still could be workers on the site of some construction zones, so obeying lowered speed limits is still required.

Captain David McGill of the Tennessee Highway Patrol says the THP will not be taking take the holiday off.

Blue Raiders Look to Rebound from Tough 2011 Season

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (HUBBARD)  --  MTSU football will look to rebound from last year’s tough season when they take the field at Floyd Stadium Thursday tonight.

The Blue Raiders finished the 2011 season with a 2-10 record, giving up an average of 37 points a game.

Head coach Rick Stockstill shook things up in the spring when he brought in former SEC defensive coordinator Tyrone Nix to lend a hand.

Despite the defensive changes, starting quarterback Logan Kilgore says the offensive scheme will remain much the same.

200 Tennesseans in Tampa for GOP Convention

TAMPA, Fla. (AP/WMOT) —  A large Tennessee delegation will be on hand in Tampa Wednesday night to hear Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice address the GOP convention.

Rice will reportedly tell the delegates that the voice of the United States in world affairs "has been muted" under President Barack Obama, creating a chaotic and dangerous security environment.

Tennessee Republican Party spokesman Adam Nickas is in Florida with the delegation. He says he was impressed by Ann Romney’s speech Tuesday night.

Tennessee Forms Unit to Investigate Identify Theft Cases

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — Tennessee's Safety Department is creating a new unit to investigate identity theft crimes.

Deputy Commissioner of Safety and Homeland Security Larry Godwin says that the 14-member unit will be made up of personnel from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the state Office of Homeland Security and the Driver Services division.

Godwin says identity theft and fraud crimes are a growing problem in Tennessee, but many local law enforcement agencies don't have enough resources or manpower to investigate these crimes.
