17 injured when mission-trip bus runs off Tennessee road

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (AP) — Officials say more than a dozen people were injured when a small bus carrying 16 youths on a mission trip ran off a Tennessee road and stopped in a ditch.

Cleveland Police Department spokeswoman Evie West says the accident happened about 8:45 Friday morning. She says the driver and 16 youths ranging in age from about 11 to 17 were taken to a hospital. Some were taken by ambulance and some by bus. West says no one appeared to be seriously injured.

SkyRidge Medical Center spokeswoman Andrea Lockerby says the hospital is treating 15 patients with varying degrees of injury. She declined to be more specific.

The bus was from Hagood Avenue Baptist Church in Barnwell, South Carolina. Calls to the church Friday morning rang unanswered.
