MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- The Tennessee Vintage Base Ball Association will begin the 2014 season with six new teams.
Vintage Base Ball can now be found in about half of the American states and is played by the rules that governed the game in 1864.
Until this year, Tennessee had just two teams. The Franklin Ferriers and the Nashville Marroons.
Six new teams will join them this year in competing for the Tennessee league title. They include The East Nashville Phoenix, the Knoxville Holstons, the Dry Town Boys of Roane County, The Highland Rim Distillers of Mansker’s Station, the Stewart’s Creek Scouts, and the Oak Hill Travelers.
League Vice President Trapper Haskins says Vintage Base Ball harks back to a kinder, gentler age.
“We don’t taunt. We don’t argue the calls with the umpire. It’s a more genteel game. There’s just a different quality and a beauty playing it the way it was played when the sport was in it’s infancy really.”
