$65 Million Student Union Opens at MTSU

Sidelines

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT/SIDELINES) -- A 211,000 square foot student union complete with ballroom, movie theater, restaurants, game room, bookstore and 700-plus seat dining hall opened about an hour ago here on the campus of Middle Tennessee State.

Sarah Sudak is the university's Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Student Life.

“This is, for lack of a better word, a living room for students. So this is where students are going to come who want to hang out both inside and outside. It provides opportunities for private nooks for study, reflection, as well as group work.”

The new facility’s first floor contains an information center, glass elevators, food court, game room, and a larger Phillips Bookstore. The Student Union also boasts a 95 seat movie theater and a 1500 seat ballroom.

Grand opening ceremonies for the building are set for September. The university says the building will be fully functioning by Monday, the first full day of classes at MTSU.
