AAA says gas prices will likely continue to fall a few more weeks

AAA

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --   There’s been a sharp drop in gas prices in recent weeks here in Tennessee and across the nation.

AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report says Tennesseans are paying an average of $2.31 for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline today. That’s down five cents in the past week, 20 cents in the past month, and 93 cents in the past year.

Some Murfreesboro stations are selling gas today for as low as $2.12 for a gallon of regular unleaded.

AAA Fuel Analyst Don Lindsey says we’re seeing cheaper gas at the pump because crude oil is cheaper at the well-head.

“What we’re seeing is primarily because of a huge glut of oil in the world out there and it is resulting in oil prices that are in the less than $45 a barrel range. We haven’t seen that in quite and while and what that’s doing, of course, it’s just forcing gasoline prices down at the pump and that’s certainly a good thing.”

Lindsey says gas prices should continue to fall for the next few weeks, but typically do rise in the fall. AAA is expecting another drop in fuel prices this winter.
