MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Alive Hospice is responding to the explosive growth taking place in Rutherford County by breaking ground on a 10 bed residential facility in Murfreesboro.

The charity currently provides end-of-life care to individuals at home in 12 mid-state counties and operates two residential facilities in Nashville. CEO and President Anna-Gene O’Neal says that the organization is currently serving more than 460 Tennesseans in their final days.

“Everyone deserves an opportunity to be able to have comfort and dignity and peace restored at the end of their lives and we’re grateful that we’ve had 41 years of this community supporting Alive Hospice to allow us the opportunity to be able to give back to the community in such meaningful ways.”

Alive Hospice provides care regardless of an individual’s ability to pay for the services. The charity is a 501-c3 non-profit that relies on donations and lots of volunteers.

“We have almost 400 volunteers who currently volunteer for us now, everything from helping with office work or with mailings for us to greeting patients and going to visit with them and sitting with them while families might need to take a break and really a little bit of everything in between.”

The charity plans to break ground on its new 20,000 square foot hospice residence August 17. The public is invited to attend. The new facility will be located on Williams Drive near the St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital.

Alive Hospice needs to raise an additional $300,000 to fully fund construction.
