MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — Tennessee companies are apparently expecting holiday shoppers to be more nice than naughty this year and are hiring accordingly.
Memphis based FedEx says it intends to hire 20,000 seasonal workers, up slightly from last year.
Here in the mid-state, Career Solutions, the job assistance division of Goodwill, says it’s set job placement records in each of the past three months.
Betty Johnson is a Goodwill spokesperson. She says the organization is working with several Middle Tennessee employers to fill seasonal jobs, some part-time and some temporary full-time.
“We have one major employer – we’re working through third party staffing – to help them fill those types of jobs in Lebanon and Murfreesboro. What they’ve told us is that there are 7,000 jobs that they’re filling in Murfreesboro and a thousand in Lebanon.”
Amazon is reportedly the employer and is hiring for seasonal positions at it’s order fulfillment warehouses here in the mid-state.
Johnson says Macy’s is trying to fill some 1500 warehouse jobs, some seasonal and some fulltime.
