NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — House Democratic Caucus Chairman Mike Turner says he won’t seek re-election.
Turner is telling members of the House of Representatives that he’ll retire at the end of the year after serving District 51 for 14 years. The district covers the areas of Old Hickory, Madison, east Nashville, downtown Nashville and Germantown.
Turner has served as caucus chairman since 2009.
Turner’s announcement follows word last month that Democratic State Rep. Charles Curtiss is also stepping down after serving in the House for 19 years.
Republicans currently hold a super-majority in both chambers of the Tennessee Legislature.
