Anti-Muslim protests planned for Murfreesboro Saturday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  -- Anti-muslim protests have been announced for Saturday at the Murfreesboro Mosque and 19 other locations around the nation.

The group Global Rally for Humanity is sponsoring the rally. On the Huntsville, Alabama chapters Facebook page the group says it “will not allow Islamic agitators to tear our country apart from within.”

According to Alabama.com the events are planned to coincide with a rally in Washington D.C. featuring the controversial leader of the Nation of Islam, Louis Farrakhan.

The Murfreesboro chapter of the group says it will hold a protest event at the Islamic Center of Murfreesboro beginning at 11 a.m. The page indicates that 37 people plan to attend.

Murfreesboro Mosque spokesman Dr. Saleh Sbenaty says non-Muslim supporters of the Mosque wanted to organize a counter demonstration, but the Mosque’s leadership asked them not to do so. He says the Mosque has made the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office aware of the planned protest.

He says the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are also aware of the planned protests.
