NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A federal appeals court in Cincinnati is set to take up two cases that could determine the future of same-sex marriages in Tennessee.
The U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals will hear the case as part of a series of hearings on similar lawsuits across four dates on Wednesday.
U.S. District Judge Aleta Trauger issued an order requiring the state to recognize the marriages of three same-sex couples. She also put that order on hold while a higher court weighs in on the case.
The lawsuit did not challenge laws barring same-sex marriage in Tennessee, only those that prohibit recognizing such marriages performed in other states.
A three-judge panel will also hear arguments on similar rulings from Michigan, Ohio and Kentucky.
