MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives says it has started an anti-gang initiative in Middle Tennessee.
This past Tuesday, ATF agents and officers with the Murfreesboro Police Department arrested three Murfreesboro residents. Police say all three are members of the Vice Lords street gang.
Special Agent Michael Knight is a with the ATF office in Nashville. He says the arrests are part of a larger effort to reduce gang involvement in violent crimes, gun running and the drug trade.
“The ATF, along with the Murfreesboro Police Department, is beginning a gang initiative focusing on the Gangster Disciples and Vice Lords street gangs. And this gang initiative will focus on the firearms aspect as well as on narcotics trafficking.”
Arrested last week were 28 year-old Rush L. Colvin, 38 year-old Derevious M. Benford, and Tiandre M. Sneed.
All three were arrested without incident on numerous outstanding federal warrants. Sneed was booked into the Rutherford County Jail. Colvin and Benford were moved immediately to the federal courthouse in Nashville.
