August to be Drier after an Unusually Wet July

weather.gov

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — If you thought you were spending way too much time with your umbrella in July, you were right.

The National Weather Service says most of Tennessee's major cities received higher than normal rain amounts during the month.

Chattanooga is nearly four inches ahead in rainfall so far in July, recording 7.7 inches so far — more than twice as much as average.

Nashville has received 6 inches, which is also more than twice the usual amount.

In Knoxville they’ve received two and a half inches more than rain than usual.

The Tri-Cities have gotten nearly 3 inches more precipitation than normal.

Meteorologist Brittney Coleman at the Nashville Weather Service office says August shouldn’t be quite as damp.

“It looks like August is going to be slightly above normal with precip., but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be quite as wet as what we saw earlier this month. Temperatures also look to be about normal for August.”

Memphis is the only major city in the state to receive its usual amount of rain in July.
