MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP/WMOT) — Authorities in Tennessee are investigating bomb threats that forced the evacuation of dozens of courthouses across the state, including several here in Middle Tennessee.
The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency’s Dean Flener says that - so far - bomb threats have been made against government facilities in 28 counties.
“Local law enforcement is handling this as they get a threat. I know that they are evacuating the buildings where these are being called in to and they’re working to clear the scene. Last number I heard was that 14 have been cleared.”
WSMV-TV reports that here in Middle Tennessee, courthouses in Cheatham, Bedford, Franklin and Giles County have been evacuated. Fleener says the threats are being made by telephone to court clerk offices.
A similar round of bomb threats made last week targeting 28 courthouses in Oregon turned out to be a hoax.
