CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Failed congressional candidate Weston Wamp had a terse message for incumbent Rep. Chuck Fleischmann in conceding last week's Republican primary.
According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/1oqcAXR ), Wamp in his phone call to Fleischman said: "You successfully deceived tens of thousands of Tennesseans, and you won. I concede."
Wamp, the son of former Rep. Zach Wamp, lost his bid to oust Fleischmann by fewer than 2 percentage points after a campaign that featured a heavy round of negative advertising by the incumbent.
Wamp's comments evoked memories of his father's comments after losing a spirited gubernatorial primary to Gov. Bill Haslam in 2010. In Zach Wamp's words at the time: "The best candidate doesn't always win."
