Celebrations Set for Goodwill Week, May 4-8, in Rutherford County

In celebration of Goodwill Week May 4-8, the two Goodwill Career Solutions centers in Murfreesboro will host 13 events, including multiple-employer job fairs, a couponing class and a stopover by a mobile career lab.

Every year during the first full week of May, Goodwill agencies across the United States and Canada celebrate the power of work through local promotions. This year, Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee plans about 140 events, including dozens of job fairs, at the 27 Goodwill Career Solutions centers across Middle and West Tennessee. Gov. Bill Haslam has issued a proclamation recognizing Goodwill Week statewide.

In Rutherford County, one job fair will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, at the Goodwill Career Solutions Center at 710 Memorial Blvd., Murfreesboro. At least 12 employers will participate, and more than 100 positions in areas such as manufacturing, forklift and hospitality are available. Participating employers include ViJon, Centaur Building Services, Arby’s, Simos for Americold, SMX, Staffmark, Speedway, Alliance HR, Malace HR, Hamilton-Ryker, Embassy Suites and Acceptance Now. Pay rates range from $8-$14 per hour.

JOB FAIR FOR AT LEAST 14 EMPLOYERS

            Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Another job fair will be from 9 a.m.-noon on Wednesday, May 6, at the Goodwill Career Solutions Center at 2955 S. Church St., Murfreesboro. At least four employers will participate, and more than 25 openings in areas such as quality engineer, maintenance supervisor and fast food are available. Pay rates start at $8 per hour.

JOB FAIR FOR AT LEAST FOUR EMPLOYERS

When: Wednesday, May 6

            9 a.m. – noon

Where: Goodwill Career Solutions

            2955 S. Church St.

            Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Representatives from these companies will be on site and interviews are possible, so job-seekers should dress for success. Job candidates are encouraged to bring a resume, photo ID, Social Security card or birth certificate.

A Couponing Class taught by Ann Haney of Living in Abundance Missions will be from 9-10 a.m. Thursday, May 7, at the Goodwill Career Solutions Center at 2955 S. Church St. Participants will learn to save money on groceries and necessities and maximize coupon value.

The Tennessee Career Coach, the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s mobile center, will be at the Goodwill Career Solutions Center at 710 Memorial Blvd. in Murfreesboro from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Thursday, May 7. The coach features a computer lab with Internet access, job readiness workshops including resume assistance and interviewing skills and a recruitment center for companies moving to Tennessee.

Other Goodwill Week activities in Rutherford County will include community resource fairs, LinkedIn workshops, an Employer Appreciation Luncheon and Customer Appreciation Day.
