CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — City officials have planned a full day of memorial events to mark the first anniversary of the terrorist attack in Chattanooga that claimed the lives of five U.S. service members.

The Times Free Press reports that Saturday will be the one-year anniversary of when a lone gunman opened fire on two Chattanooga military sites. Five servicemen were killed: 25-year-old Sgt. Carson Holmquist, 40-year-old Gunnery Sgt. Thomas Sullivan, 21-year-old Lance Cpl. Squire "Skip" Wells, 35-year-old Staff Sgt. David A. Wyatt and U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith.

Memorial events will begin at 6 a.m. Saturday and will end after sunset. Events range from concerts to art exhibits. Some, like an afternoon interfaith service, are aimed at showing unity that stretches beyond politics or religion. Others will be quiet moments of grief and reflection.

More information about scheduled events can be found online.
