Christian university files lawsuit against TN Dept. of Education

MCKENZIE, Tenn. (AP) — Bethel University has filed a lawsuit and obtained a restraining order against state education departments.

The Jackson Sun (http://bit.ly/2b2ZHmw ) reports that Davidson County Chancery Court issued the restraining order Wednesday against the Tennessee Department of Education, the Tennessee Board of Education and others, including Commissioner of Education Candice McQueen.

The lawsuit was filed in response to a Tennessee Board of Education vote that would have revoked the university's approval and accreditation to prepare its students to take Tennessee's teacher licensure test. The university said in a news release that the court's order restrains the defendants from enforcing the board of education vote.

Bethel University claims that it already holds all the necessary approval and accreditation to train teacher licensure candidates until the fall of 2017.
