Clarksville Baby Dead, Mom to Get Mental Evaluation

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Court records show the arraignment of a Tennessee woman charged in the death of her infant daughter has been postponed until she undergoes a mental health evaluation.

The Leaf Chronicle (http://leafne.ws/1irH055) reports 24-year-old Stefany Paige Johnson had been scheduled to appear in court Monday morning on a charge of criminal homicide. She is being held without bail at the Montgomery County jail.

Clarksville police found her 7-month-old daughter, Astrid Johnson, dead on a couch. Police said they went to the residence on Friday after getting reports of a woman screaming and yelling in the street.

Police said they asked Johnson what happened, and her response was that "Jesus came down and took Astrid to heaven" while she was bathing her.

A police report concluded Johnson's negligence resulted in the girl's death.
