CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — An automotive brake plant in Clarksville announced an $82 million expansion of its facility that will add 94 additional jobs.
Akebono Brake Corporation, a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Akebono Brake Industry Co., Ltd., said in a news release Thursday from the Clarksville-Montgomery Economic Development Council that the expansion will take place in two phases between 2013 and 2014.
The plant has been in production since 1989 and was purchased by Akebono in 2009. The expansion will allow the plant to perform caliper machining, plating and assembly at the Clarksville facility, which plant manager Tammy Francesckina said will offer customers more diversified products.
The Clarksville plant serves auto manufacturers such as GM, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Ford and Chrysler and currently employs 503 people.
