Congressional Rep. Blackburn protest claims disputed

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  The Mayor of Fairview is disputing mid-state Congressional Rep. Marsha Blackburn’s characterization of the protesters who showed up at her town hall meeting there on Tuesday.

Blackburn is telling reporters like CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that only about a third of the people in attendance were her constituents.

BLITZER: “Did they check IDs when people were coming in…” BLACKBURN: “They did. They also looked at the parking lot. There were a lot of out-of-state tags.”

Fairview Mayor Patti Carroll has a different story, saying when asked most people in the room said they did live in Blackburn’s district.

In recent days, Republican lawmakers have faced angry questions during open forum meetings nationwide.
