MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT) -- A Bordeaux man was killed before daybreak Wednesday morning as a line of strong storms moved through the mid-state.
WSMV-TV reports that 47-year-old Vernon Hartsell was killed around 3:30 a.m. Police say Hartsell was inside a shed on Abernathy Road when a tree fell on the building.
About 21,000 Middle Tennessee homes were without power at 5 a.m. By daybreak. the outages had been reduced to about 14,000 homes. Damage that ranges from light to moderate are being reported throughout the WMOT listening area. There are reports of numerous downed trees and power lines, extensive roof damage and some structural damage.
A number of area school systems opted to open late Wednesday morning as a result of the storm. Cheatham and Sumner counties closed schools as a result of power outages.
A wind advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. this evening.
Temperatures in the mid-state are falling dramatically in the storms wake. Friday’s high temperature will likely be below freezing. There’s a slight chance of snow Wednesday and Thursday nights.
