NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The chairwoman of the Tennessee Democratic Party is calling on House Republican leaders to resign over their handling of Rep. Jeremy Durham and sexual harassment at the Tennessee General Assembly.

Mary Mancini at a press conference Monday said House Speaker Beth Harwell, Majority Leader Gerald McCormick and Republican Caucus Chairman Glen Casada should step aside for what she called the "toxic" atmosphere for women at the legislative office complex.

Durham on Sunday stepped down from his position as House Republican whip after The Tennessean newspaper reported that three women had received inappropriate text messages from the lawmaker.

Speaker Harwell has said she is calling for a review of the General Assembly's sexual harassment policy to ensure women "feel comfortable coming forward" with complaints.
