MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Donald Trump is the clear favorite of  Tennessee Republicans among the current batch of presidential primary candidates, according to new numbers out this week from the MTSU Poll.

When asked to name the one person they would most like to see win the election, about one in three respondents chose Trump. Middle Tennessee State pollster Ken Blake notes, however, that a lot of the state’s residents have not yet made up their minds.

“Back in the hazy history of last October Ben Carson was leading in Tennessee and he’s down to single digits now, so this all still looks pretty volatile to me, even with just about four weeks left to the primary.”

Hillary Clinton is the preferred candidate for 47 percent of Tennessee Democrats, well above rival Bernie Sanders.

Clinton was also the candidate that earned the highest disapproval rating of any candidate on either ticket. Sixty-five percent of Tennesseans surveyed saiy the do not want to see Clinton reach the White House.

The MTSU poll surveyed 600 registered voters statewide and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
