MARYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — One person died and another was injured when their motorcycles collided and went over a steep embankment on an East Tennessee road known as The Dragon.

The Daily Times of Maryville reports (http://bit.ly/2dZgN4T ) that the wreck wasn't discovered until a group of motorcyclists heard the survivor shouting for help at about 12:45 p.m. on Sunday. The crash had occurred the previous day at 10 a.m., plunging the riders 50 and 100 feet below the roadway.

Blount County Fire Department officials tell the newspaper that the survivor had to be pulled up by ropes in an elaborate rescue effort and flown to the hospital by helicopter.

The mountain road is famous for its 318 curves in 11 miles along the western edge of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
