Durham lawsuit blocks release of report into his activities

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WMOT)  --  Embattled Republican State Rep. Jeremy Durham is asking  a judge to block the release of a report into allegations of sexual harassment made against him.

Durham is being investigated for alleged sexual misconduct after three female legislative staff members told the Tennessean that he had sent them inappropriate text messages. Tennessee Attorney General Herbert Slattery conducted the investigation at the request of House Speak Beth Harwell.

The Tennessean says the AG’s report could have been released this week. But Durham is asking Davidson County Chancery Court to block release of the report, saying that it will negatively impact his reelection campaign. Early voting for the August election begins Friday.

A hearing to review the case will be held Tuesday. Speaker Harwell and AG Slattery are expected to file responses Monday.

Several State lawmaker’s have either expressed support for Durham, or are questioning the legality of the investigation into his activities. This past Friday fellow Republican State Rep. Rick Womick released a seven page letter outlining why he believes the Durham investigation violates Tennessee’s Constitution.
